University of Bologna Announces Faculty and Researchers Mobility Programme

The University of Bologna announced that its Academic Bodies have recently introduced a new procedure for regulating the mobility of faculty and researchers under the framework of International Agreements. This new procedure involves a competitive selection process, which is scheduled for the beginning of each academic year. The mobility positions are assigned to a list of professors and/or researchers of the University, who may apply either to go abroad to one of Bologna’s partner Universities or invite a colleague from the partner Universities to spend a period in Bologna.

The published call for proposals from faculty and researchers interested in participating in the mobility projects under the framework of International Agreements is now available online, at the following web-page:

http://www.unibo.it/Portale/Relazioni+Internazionali/DimensioneInternazionale/
accordienetwork/Bando_mobilita_docenti_2012.htm

The web page is in Italian, and only professors of the University of Bologna can apply for a mobility project. Should a professor or researcher be interested in spending a mobility period at Bologna, we advise you to contact the professors in charge of the international agreements (for detailed contact information, refer to “allegato 1”※) in order to make arrangements for the application process. Please review the FAQs (http://www.ipo.titech.ac.jp/temp/FAQ_BandoConve2012_ENG.pdf) (※)dedicated to helping foreign professors or researchers better understand the procedures involved.

※TOKYO INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY: PIERLUIGI CONTUCCI pierluigi.contucci@unibo.it

※In the FAQs Article 5 it is noted that the international agreements normally provide financial support; however, for the agreement between Bologna and Tokyo Tech there is no policy outlined for financial support for faculty exchanges.

All professors of the partner Universities will be advised as to when they will be able to apply for a mobility period to Bologna. Please be aware that Bologna will normally publish its annual call for proposals in November or December. This implies that professors or researchers interested in conducting a mobility project in Bologna need to contact their colleagues in Bologna around that time of the year.
An additional point to note is that coinciding with the timing for the call for proposals, there may be some professors or researchers from Bologna who have decided to apply for a mobility position at your institution; and therefore, they may need to receive an official invitation letter from one of your professors or researchers.

"FP 7" (the Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development) is the European Union's chief instrument for funding research over the period 2007 to 2013 in the European Union and 13 associated countries.

Part of FP7, the European Research Council (ERC) is the first European funding body set up to support investigator-driven frontier research. The ERC is a flagship component of the 'Ideas Programme' of EU FP7. ERC grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, irrespective of their nationalities, who are working or moving to work in Europe - the sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence.

Prof. Nowotny, the President of ERC since 1st March 2010 will present the principles of this new funding organisation, and some of the early accomplishments in terms of calls and funding which are open to researchers from all over the world.
