Message from the President and Chief Executive Officer (Science Tokyo)
In October 2024, Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Tokyo Institute of Technology merged to form Science Tokyo. Science Tokyo’s mission is “advancing science and human wellbeing to create value for and with society.” Its goal is to achieve the world’s highest level of scientific comprehensive university, and to work with universities, research institutions, and others around the world to create a better, brighter future. To this end, Science Tokyo will continue to implement exchange programs with outstanding researchers and students from top universities and research institutions around the world. The double degree program for graduate students with Tsinghua University in China was first launched in Japan in 2004 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. This is an extremely attractive program aimed at obtaining master’s degrees from top universities in Japan and China. Under the research guidance of professors at the highest level in Japan and China, in addition to possessing advanced professional knowledge, we also cultivate talents with a transnational perspective. In recent years, China’s presence in the world and the development of Tsinghua University have been very prominent. We believe that students who study through this program will be more active with a global perspective in the future.
Message from the President (Tsinghua University)
Since its official launch in 2004, the Science Tokyo-Tsinghua University Joint Graduate Program has continued to expand its fields of study and is producing meaningful results through regular academic seminars and exchange activities. The program uses a model of joint instruction by Professors from both universities, thereby maximizing the human resource development benefits of both institutions. The Joint Steering Committee strongly encourages support throughout the program for the smooth implementation of projects. The teaching model of joint instruction, cross-disciplinary exchanges, periodic exchanges, and joint management have fostered a multifaceted, deep, and close cooperative relationship between the two universities. It has also laid a solid foundation for further deepening exchanges between the two instituions.
Tsinghua University announced Global Strategy 2030 in 2021. One of its core strategies is the development of students who possess global competency. This strategy fosters exchanges, fusion, and joint development between Chinese and foreign students, thereby cultivating human resources who possess a global perspective and are capable of fulfilling an active role in the advanced and complex field of global governance. I hope that the two universities will utilize the Science Tokyo-Tsinghua University Joint Graduate Program as an opportunity to continuously strengthen cooperation for human resource development and academic creation. Furthermore, as a leading university, we hope to fulfill a unique role in addressing global challenges such as public health and climate change. We will also strive to cultivate pioneering ability for promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
