The Decision Science and Technology Course offers a unique opportunity for students to specialize in humanities and social sciences at Science Tokyo, the leading science university in Japan, and at Tsinghua, the leading science university in China. Since the institutionalization of R&D, the wealth of our society is ever more dependent on technology, and at the same time, the various risks are increasingly global in scale. Science and technology offer more choices than ever before, but they also raise previously unconsidered ethical issues. As societies gain wealth, it is said that they undergo a fundamental shift towards post-material values. That the leading science universities in Japan and China are providing this forum to explore issues through interdisciplinary education and research is of great global significance. From this perspective, I sincerely hope that the talented individuals fostered in the program will solve the great challenges facing humankind.

Director of Decision Science and Technology Course, Science Tokyo – Tsinghua University Joint Graduate Program

The Decision Science and Technology Course is one of the three core offerings in our program, renowned for its distinguished reputation and its success in educating numerous students over the years. Unlike past eras, we are now entering a new era where human intelligence and artificial intelligence coexist. Artificial intelligence will be deeply integrated into science, technology, education, and even daily life. In this era, humans will enjoy the convenience brought by artificial intelligence and gain opportunities for significant development. At the same time, we will face numerous challenges. To seize these opportunities and overcome the challenges, it is necessary to place greater emphasis than ever before on psychology, brain and cognitive sciences, humanities and social sciences, which are the core subjects of this course.

In this significant historical context, this course aims to cultivate students with international perspectives, scientific spirit, humanistic values, and AI literacy by combining the cutting-edge research of both universities in the fields of social and engineering studies. The course strives to make unique contributions to the new era.
