The Tokyo Tech CAMPUS Asia Spring Program was a delightful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to have a fruitful research experience in Japan at Tokyo Tech. I was attached to the Kenji Suzuki Laboratory for Biomedical Artificial Intelligence Research where I received invaluable guidance for my research project on brain tumour segmentation using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with and learn so much from Professor Suzuki, Professor Ze Jin and everyone in the Suzuki Laboratory. The memories and connections forged with everyone I met in Japan are some that I will cherish for life.
The overseas experience was enriching both professionally and culturally. It exposed me to diverse perspectives in research and fostered an environment of global collaboration. I gained insights into different methodologies and approaches, which broadened my understanding of healthcare technology beyond borders. This program not only deepened my technical expertise in AI but also reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork in tackling complex medical challenges.
Therefore, I would encourage anyone who is looking to gain a world-class research experience and some lifelong memories in Japan to participate in the CAMPUS Asia Program.

As part of the Tokyo Tech CAMPUS Asia Programme, I had the opportunity to complete my Bachelor’s thesis in Japan. Specifically, I was attached to Shinoda Laboratory at Tokyo Tech, where I focused on improving existing methods of gait recognition. Throughout my five-month research journey, I had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be part of a research group. Everyone in the lab was very friendly, and we would have some recreational events from time to time. Thanks to the support of my academic supervisor, Shinoda-sensei, and my peers, I managed to write a paper about my research and submit it to an international conference.
Aside from my research, I had many opportunities to travel across Japan and indulge in its beauty. Adapting to a new environment was challenging at first, especially since I had limited knowledge of Japanese. However, over time, I gradually picked up some basic Japanese and attended some Japanese language classes at Tokyo Tech. Along the way, I met many people and made numerous friends, not just among the locals but also with individuals from around the world. This experience was far more than an academic endeavour; it broadened my horizons, exposed me to experiences unavailable in Singapore, and helped me develop a global mindset.
Had I completed my Bachelor’s thesis in Singapore, I am certain I would not have encountered all these enriching experiences. I am deeply grateful to the Tokyo Institute of Technology and Nanyang Technological University for providing me with this invaluable opportunity.

Tokyo Tech CAMPUS Asia Summer School is a wonderful program. I feel extremely happy and fortunate to join the program and I have spent a fulfilling time for the past 10 weeks. The program staff managed everything very well so that I was adapted to my life in Japan easily. They also arranged for us many interesting and meaningful activities such as Japanese language class and a weekend trip, through which I learned more about Japanese culture and built up friendships with students from TKT and other schools. This was a precious opportunity for me.
As my program is research-oriented, I spent most time in the laboratory doing experiments. Kobayashi Equo Sensei, my academic supervisor, welcomed me kindly and promised me full permission to all the equipment. The lab members helped me a lot with the use of the facilities. During this summer, I successfully conducted some tests and got expected experimental results. I also learned about their research topics at group meetings, which broadened my knowledge. We also had some recreational activities and I enjoyed the warm atmosphere of my lab, where I learned much about Japanese customs and habits from the members. They are all patient and considerate people and I feel fortunate to have them company while studying abroad.
Life in Japan is so enjoyable that 10 weeks have passed very quickly. I have visited many beautiful places and tasted much delicious food. This is an unforgettable and unique experience of my life. I’d like to thank Tokyo Tech and Tsinghua University for providing me with this memorable chance and I wish more and more students can share this happiness in the future.

The summer school program at Tokyo Tech is a wonderful and unforgettable experience. My academic supervisor, Prof. Yano, provided a lot of advice on my research and helped me learn experimental methods that I was interested in. The students in the research group were very enthusiastic, and I was very happy to be able to participate in the daily activities. These two months allowed me to experience different cultures and broaden my horizons. Like most Ph.D. students, the exploration of the unknown is full of struggle, confusion, and aimlessness. This experience gave me a chance to stop, rethink, and face the unknown bravely, which was very meaningful for me. I would like to thank Tokyo Tech for providing me with the opportunity to spend a fulfilling time and have this wonderful memory. : )
